Soyeon Cho originally comes from Korea and currently lives in New York. She has two M.F.A. degrees, one from Seoul National University and one from S.V.A. Her two most recent shows in New York were AC Summer Group Show at the Elizabeth Dee Gallery (July-September 2004) and Micro - Universe at the Lab Gallery (February 2005, curated by Helianthe Bordeaux-Maurin). She participated at the 14th Northwest Annual (curated by Ken Lum) at the Center of Contemporary Art in Seattle and was awarded the Andy Gerber Memorial Award for her installation Under the Tree. She also received the A.I.R. Fellowship for 2005-2006.

Recently Soyeon Cho has focused on using everyday materials such as q-tips and plastic forks. She teaches her audience about the hidden magic and worlds within the most seemingly negligible objects. This parallels her fundamental belief in everyone’s uniqueness and capacity for creating beauty. Her work reminds us of everyone’s intrinsic value beyond her function in the society. Ultimately, she shows us the unending ability of the human mind to re-imagine and re-create its world.
