The exhibition, organized and presented by Luis De Jesus Seminal Projects from July 17 through August 30, 2008, will include the work of approximately 20 artists, almost all of them living and working in the San Diego-So Cal region. COCKED! will examine issues of masculinity and "production", the idea that men are predisposed to "make", "build" or "transform" objects.

COLLABORATIVE RESIDENCY

arist-in-residence Guerra de la Paz

Location:Elsewhere Artist Collaborative
Directions: 606 South Elm St.Greensboro, NC. 27406

Elsewhere’s residency program invites emerging and established artists and scholars to create site-specific works using the plethora of objects and dynamic spaces as materials for works or as a foundation for conceptual or technological projects. Residents launch projects from within the theoretical framework of an evolving exhibition of objects and artworks across media, composing an experimental museum rethinking the premise of the collector and collection, questions of history and myth, the stasis of the art object, the role of the artist, and the relationship of process within production.

POLYCHROME AFFINITIES

Guerra de la Paz
Curator Michelle Weinberg

Complementary aesthetics - Polychrome Affinities - unite these artists. All use color in an analytical way, derived from the underlying structure of spectrum of color that exists in nature, rather than an impressionistic response to local color. Color chips, Pantone color arrays, and artificial hues from print media and found textiles are used in an abstract palette that heightens the experience of viewing ordinary color. Sequential relationships and color families are intuitively deployed by each. Each artist is a scavenger of raw materials and images absorbed from the visual environment of Miami, which are then sorted according to color.
